Jaaleen Turner's Story

On December 24, 2024, our lives changed traumatically. My son Jaaleen Turner who is 23 years old decided to end his life. Around 5:00 p.m. I returned home from work only to find my son's wheelchair on the street, but my son was not present. As a concerned mother, I called every place I could think of that my son would probably be. My last call was to the nonemergency number where I was able to speak to the Fairfield Police Department in which one the detectives informed me that they had been in contact with my son and that they received a call from a by stander and witness that a man was on fire and that his whole body was up in flames. They also informed me that my son was transported to Northbay Hospital located in the city of Fairfield in critical condition and that he was sedated. Upon arrival and seeing my son couldn't believe what I was witnessing. My son Jaaleen was wrapped up like a mummy and I could only see his beard which was burnt. I could smell the smoke coming from his body. He was airlifted to UC Davis in Sacramento California where he was in ICU and on a ventilator and sedated most of his stay. He endured 6 skin graft surgeries as 60 percent of his body was burned with second and third degree burns with a 50/50 percent chance of survival.
He fought many bacterial infections during his stay and pneumonia twice. His body went through such a traumatic experience, and we are still dealing with the aftermath. During his stay he was unable to talk, eat, walk and still battled with what happened to him. He was discharged April 9th 2025 home where I am currently taking care of him. This is just a short story to what happened to him.
During Jaaleen's stay I have been going back and forward to UC Davis from December to current as he is still receiving burn treatments, and he is on special medications. In that time, I have lost income and has not been able to take of my family. I four sons whose home schooled. I am asking for financial assistance for our family in which certain procedures and medications and services that his insurance does not cover. I am currently his care giver and I'm not able to work due to Jaaleens around the clock care. It is difficult and hard trying to handle everything. So, I am asking for help and any amount is helpful.
Jaaleen has more surgeries as he is not able to use his right hand and his also his right hip is out of place, and he has half of his right ear. So, there are many challenges we face on a daily and many more to come. This is a long road to recovery, and we cannot do this without you all's help.
Our goal is so that we can recover and get Jaaleen the proper care and supplies that he needs as we are in constant need of medical supplies, cream, bandages, gauzes, ointments, wraps, gowns, nutritional dietary foods and so forth. This is not an easy journey, but my faith and hope are that Jaaleen will be restored and that our family will be whole again. Thank you in advance your love, prayers and support.
