Help Izzy Battle a Brain Tumor

Donation protected
Izzy was suffering from debilitating migraines for several months - they would pull her out of school for weeks at a time. Then, during one particularly bad migraine in mid-January 2018, the doctors did an MRI. The results of the MRI stopped all of us in our tracks: aggressive brain tumor.

Izzy is a vibrant and bubbly 14 year old. Her positive attitude about everything is 100% contagious, and the love she shows to even complete strangers is unbelievable and rare.

Originally, we were told she had a rare and fatal brain tumor called a DIPG - with only about 300 cases in the USA a year. Originally, we would be lucky if she was going to be with us by her birthday (in August). Thankfully, the biopsy that was performed (early February 2018) showed us that it was NOT a DIPG!!! Instead, it is a low-grade glioma!

(Photo taken of Izzy and big sis during biopsy recovery)

Instead of a near 100% fatality rate (the rate for the DIPG), a low-grade glioma has a survival rate well into the 90% range! This means that Izzy should be able to grow up to be a happy and healthy adult!

Since the tumor is located on the pons (pretty much right in the middle of her brain), reaching it with medications is difficult - and surgery to remove it is totally out of the question. They still decided to treat it with aggressive radiation. She had radiation treatments for about 6 weeks, 5 days a week. The treatments were completed on April 4, 2018!

With how long insurance takes to process everything, we're not entirely sure at the full costs of everything. However, the family needs help! Izzy's mom, Elly, works 60 hours a week to support her and the two girls (Izzy has an older sister). It would be amazing if we could take some strain from the family so that Elly could spend this time with her daughters while they all fight through this!

Estimated Expenses:

Biopsy - estimated $5000
Driving - $75 (it's a 50 mile round trip to the hospital, this is gas + wear and tear for one week)
Food - $400 (estimated food expenses per week for two teen girls and their mom)
Misc - $200 (estimated expenses for other necessities per week)
Radiation Treatment - estimated $25 per treatment, 5 days a week for 5-6 weeks

Since treatments are ongoing, the goal will periodically increase to continue to cover copays, food, and gas!

Please help us save our infectiously happy Izzy!
