Help Iyra fight Rhabdomyosarcoma

Donation protected
Hello all, my name is Divya. I have two beautiful daughters, Iyra and Nayna. Nayna is 3 months old and Iyra is 3 and a half years old. Both my daughter are happy kids.

It was all normal and happy in November 2021 when my parents arrived from India to see their grandchildren. Iyra and Nayna enjoyed their company and were having a great time with them. One early morning when Iyra used the bathroom, I was surprised to see blood in her urine. This got me worried and I immediately took her to the pediatrician to check her. Since Iyra goes to the daycare the pediatrician thought this might be a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and wanted us to keep a close watch on her. However, Iyra's symptoms did not subside and she continued to have blood in her urine.

Just before Thanksgiving my husband and I decided to take her to the ER (emergency care) to understand what was going on. We thought it was going to be a quick visit but that was not the case. Doctors in the ER checked Iyra and decided to perform ultrasounds and CT Scans. At that point, we were worried and hoping everything was normal with Iyra. We waited all night for the results and the following day the doctors told us that Iyra has a cyst formation on her left kidney which might be cancerous. After hearing "cancerous" we were completed shocked. The doctors then told us that Iyra will be transferred to a different facility (Johns Hopkins (JH)) for more testing so they can confirm the results.

We were then transferred to JH where more CT scans and ultrasounds were conducted, confirming our worst fear (cancer/tumor). The doctors thought Iyra had Wilms tumor (which is common in kids of her age group) and recommend that the infected kidney be removed immediately. Day after Thanksgiving, Iyra underwent major surgery (lasting more than 12 hours) to remove her left kidney. After further testing on the tumor, the doctors discovered that Iyra has Stage 3 - Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), which is a soft tissue cancer and not Wilms tumor. It's extremely unusual that Iyra has RMS in her kidney since it's a rare condition.

Iyra is currently undergoing chemotherapy at JH and for her to fully recover, she will have to undergo 14 cycles of chemotherapy (each cycle lasting 21 days), along with 6 weeks of radiation therapy at a different facility. She has a long road ahead for her, and our lives have changed radically since her diagnosis. My husband and I feel completely devastated. There is still a long road ahead of us and we have every intention of fighting this (cancer) hard. Regardless of all this Iyra is a fun child who loves to play with her sister. She is very caring and a strong girl. She reminds us that no matter how hard things get - we must learn to smile and keep a positive attitude towards life.

Our family welcomes all of your support, love, and prayers. All funds raised will be used to help Iyra through this difficult time as well as for any medical treatments and travel expenses.

Please accept our thanks in advance.
