 Hi, my name is Carlos Salas. <strong>On August 12, 2026, our friend Ivan was taken by ICE after a routine immigration check-in in Charlotte, NC. </strong>He's currently being held at a detention center in Atlanta, GA.

 Ivan is the oldest of three siblings, works hard to help provide for his family, and has no criminal record. Even inside the detention center, Ivan has been translating for people who don't speak English and looking out for those around him, the same way he always has for his friends and family. He and his family left Venezuela in 2023 seeking asylum in the US and found a place to call home in Raleigh-Durham. They have followed every step of a process that was supposed to protect people exactly like them, only to have their family broken up anyway.

 We hired an immigration attorney to submit a request for Ivan to be released from detention under bond, and on Sep 1st, we found out his bond request was approved. Ivan will have a bond hearing in front of an immigration judge on Sep 17th.

 <strong>Bond in these cases can run anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000, and the cost will be entirely up to the immigration judge assigned to his case. </strong>

 Every dollar donated here will go toward helping Ivan's family continue to cover legal fees, his bond, and day to day expenses while we fight to bring him home. I will withdraw the funds from GoFundMe with permission from Ivan’s brother, A.C., and transfer them to his family.

My heart breaks for his family and for so many others who left a beloved country for a better future for their loved ones, only to end up here watching this government turn their backs on them.
