At the hospital it was confirmed he suffered from a stroke and although he is in physically good shape, he would need to re-learn how to communicate again.
It is still unknown whether he will ever fully regain his ability to communicate. Our family is doing everything we can to help him.
We have setup a GoFundMe page to help ensure he can get the best treatment possible and our family can get through this hard time.
My husband Igor is a Doctor of Functional Medicine, talented speaker and writer. His main book “How to Live to the Age of 120, Stay Healthy, and Keep a Sense of Humor?” is available at the Toronto public library (in Russian) or from our home office. The other books are in digital format and are available for anybody who is interested and can read in Russian.
Igor spent years learning and finding treatment for obesity, and he resolved this problem for himself completely. He is in a good physical condition despite his Ankylosing Spondylitis autoimmune disease.
Lately Igor was working a lot on his new program, new website and blog to help people with overweight issues. His findings included not only diet and supplements, but also psychological and other difficulties for overcoming this problem. He believed that a practitioner working with a patient is responsible for the client’s success or failure.
Igor is a very charismatic person with many talents. Last year he even started his acting career in an amateur theatrical studio “Udivitelnaya Koshka”. You can see his performances in YouTube videos .
We are originally from Ukraine and don’t have relatives in Canada. We have a great family. Our two sons are grown up. But we are always close together in both happy .. and not so happy moments.
The night of September 18, 2018 was not much different from any other Tuesday night in our family. I came back from my evening teaching class late and Igor was sleeping. In the morning he woke up early and tried to read a book, but somehow it was very difficult, so Igor went for a walk. Half an hour later he came back. Igor tried talking to me, but his words were random and didn’t make any sense. I felt that something was terribly wrong. Igor also looked confused and worried. We called 911.
That “regular” night Igor had a stroke. As a result he lost his ability to speak properly, read, and write. Some other senses such as color differentiating, ability to understand tasks momentarily and others are limited. Also, Igor cannot drive currently (unfortunately, I don’t drive).
We trust in neuroplasticity and hope that Igor will develop his lost abilities with proper rehabilitation treatment. We have arranged Speech Therapy classes, some Occupational Therapy testing, and are providing him the best “super brain” foods and supplements. Igor is also taking drugs prescribed to control his high blood pressure.
Our financial situation has become very difficult. We need additional funds for Speech Therapy lessons, super food, and supplements. I have to reduce my working hours to provide necessary training for Igor every day and support him with every need. Right now we will have to borrow money for paying rent.
For the one year rehabilitation we need at least $10,000 for Speech Therapy classes, drugs, supplements and other living expenses.
We would really appreciate any donation, which will help Igor to speak, read & write again.
I believe that in time Igor will delight us with smart jokes and entice interesting conversation once again; I hope he will write a new book about this experience, and you will love it.
