Urgent Help Needed for Idalia and Her Children who Fear Deportation
Together with two friends, we are reaching out on behalf of a dear friend Idalia, who is a 36 yr old single mom from a small town in Honduras, La Libertad Comayagua, with a population of 25,000. A rural town rampant with widespread gang violence, such as extortion and violent street crime.
She came to the U.S. undocumented 3.5 years ago, fleeing violence and striving for a better future for her 5 children—one of whom is a U.S. citizen.
A year ago, her husband was deported, leaving her to care for their four minor children ALONE. She does not speak English. However, despite IMMENSE hardship, including a period of homelessness, she has kept her kids housed, fed, and in school in rural Louisiana all on her own . Idalia truly is a resilient young woman with a strong faith.
Now, with recent policy changes under the current Trump administration, her work has been cut to just two days a week—she simply cannot afford rent or food. Returning to Honduras isn’t an option. She has no money for the journey, and if she turns herself into ICE, she fears family separation, justifiably. Back in Honduras, she faces gang violence with no home nor viable source of income.
Idalia truly has few options for a brighter future for herself and her children other than to remain in the U.S. and pursue a legal path to residency—her paperwork has already been filed. But in the meantime, she needs our help to keep her family housed and safe amid the trauma of mass deportation efforts and family separations.
If you’re able, please consider contributing. Every bit counts as we work to fill the gap of loss of income as her employer cut back hours and encouraged all employees to stay home during this disturbing time in America's history.
Thank you.
