HOTPEC Orphanage has been serving children for over 40 years in Buea, Mile 15, Cameroon. Over the years, more than 2,000 children have passed through this home and been given a chance at a better life.
The vision began with Dr. Tanne Zadock when he was just 19 years old. At that age, he convinced his parents to take in a 14-year-old boy who was living on the streets. That single act of compassion eventually grew into what is now HOTPEC Orphanage.
Today, HOTPEC cares for children ranging from infants to young adults. They have worked hard to build a self-sustaining system on donated property. They run a nursery and primary school, raise cattle and chickens, manage a fish pond, grow their own food, and sell produce and livestock to support the orphanage.
They also operate a small clinic open to the public and run a rock crushing business to generate income help cover the children healthcare needs and pay what they can to the kids teachers.
Despite all of these efforts, the needs remain significant.
One of their goals is to open a bakery that can serve both the children and the surrounding community. Right now, their equipment barely produces enough for the children. They need a larger oven and proper bakery supplies to expand production and generate income.
They are also facing major challenges with basic infrastructure. Cooking is currently done with firewood, which has been a daunting task to feed 158 kids breakfast, launch and dinner everyday. Their primary source of wood has been privatized causing a sharp increase in the cost of wood, way above their budget. The solution will be to install a Bio Gas system to create a more sustainable consistent energy source. A neighboring institution is using Bio Gas and have been energy independent, so can HOTPEC with your help.
Access to a reliable water source for the gardening, fish pond and cattle's which are their sources of food supply remains an urgent need. The solution is a borehole water system, it would make a life changing difference for the children. In addition, they are in need of a corn mill machine to help feed the children.
For education, HOTPEC provides schooling from pre-K through primary level, but older children must travel outside the facility to attend high school. Transportation is a major challenge, and support in this area would help ensure these children can continue their education uninterrupted.
With your donations, Hotpec will be able to purchase supplies to start a vocational school for the high school graduates who can't make it to college, giving them practical skills and a path towards independence.
HOTPEC has built something remarkable over the past four decades, using the limited resources they have to care for over 2000 orphans but they can't do it alone. Your support will help meet these urgent needs and create a more stable, promising future for the current 158 kids who call HOTPEC home. Together we can ease their burden by giving. Any amount will be put to great use. 100% of all donation goes to HOTPEC. For long term individual sponsorships or plan to visit, contact HOTPEC administrator on facebook.
