Help Homeless Fight The Cold

Dear family and friends:
We are reaching out to you today in an effort to help the homeless survive this bitter and unforgiving cold. As temperatures continue to drop across the metropolitan DC area, many of us bundle up or simply choose to stay inside to avoid the freezing cold. However, for homeless adults and children, staying indoors and warm is not always an option.
Particularly cold weather is dangerous for everyone and spending extended time in the cold can lead to frostbite, hypothermia, and in extreme situations, even death. The National Weather Service warns that temperatures even as high as 60 degrees Fahrenheit can be lethal, especially if the individual isn't properly dressed. We have experienced significantly lower temperatures this week and with temperatures expected to stay below freezing, I hope you will consider extending a helping hand to our less fortunate community members. As you know, the homeless population is particularly vulnerable since they have significantly fewer places to take refuge from the weather and less ways to protect themselves outside.
We are currently in the process of purchasing bulk blankets, hats, socks, gloves, hand and foot heat packs, etc. and will be assembling kits on rolling basis. We plan on handing out kits directly to the homeless as quickly as we can assemble care packages. We anticipate a $10 donation will keep one homeless person warm. Please consider all of our collective blessings and donate what you can.
Time is of the essence here as we are trying to pull this together to help as many people as we can (while the temperatures remain at this level). Please feel free to share our page with your friends and family and hopefully we can reach our goal within a few days and get out there to help as many people as we can.
