Please Help Us Cover the Costs for a Birth Doula as We Just Found Out Tricare No Longer Covers Our Care.
Hello Friends and Family,
We’re reaching out during a very important chapter in our lives. As we prepare to welcome Artemis into the world, we’ve encountered an unexpected financial challenge: we just found out that our insurance no longer covers the cost of a doula—a vital support person during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. They will also help with placenta encapsulation and lactation services.
What is a Doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. They are care experts in guiding mothers through labor with comfort techniques, advocacy, and reassurance. Studies show that having a doula can lead to shorter labors, fewer complications, reduced need for interventions, and a more positive birth experience overall.
Why It Matters to Us
Having a doula is incredibly important to me, especially as I navigate this journey for the second time. A doula can help us feel informed, empowered, and supported in every decision, especially in a medical setting that can often feel overwhelming. They are there to listen, hold space, ease anxiety, and ensure that I—and Dan—feel confident and cared for. I’m going to try again for a natural unmedicated birth and having this type of support will help me immensely.
The cost of doula care typically ranges from $1,800 to $2,500 depending on experience and location. With insurance no longer covering this expense, we’re asking for help to make this essential support possible.
How You Can Help
If you are able, please consider donating to help us hire our doula Terri from New Life Birth Services. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward doula services including prenatal visits, labor support, and postpartum care. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would mean the world to us.
We are so grateful for your love, encouragement, and support during this special time.
With heartfelt thanks,
Holly and Dan
