Tim or Hodgey as he’s known to most, is just your average, country bloke. He lives on the land near Beckom with his wife Tash, and their two busy boys Harrison (5) and Hunter (2). Hodgey is a shearer and farmer who has always worked bloody hard to support his family. It’s a physically demanding job, which for a young, strong and fit bloke like Hodgey has never been a problem.
In recent months though, Hodgey has been feeling under the weather and doctors hadn’t worked out what the problem was. But last week, at the age of only 35, he was diagnosed with colon cancer after they discovered a very large tumour which has been growing rapidly. As a result, he will be having immediate surgery in an effort to remove the tumour and part of his colon and he will then start chemotherapy. Consequently, he will not be able to work for the foreseeable future which is a huge blow financially.
This comes as a great shock and worry to a family that has already faced more than their fair share of hardships. The Hodge’s are hardworking, independent people who have always supported themselves and they are not ones to ask for help. As well as the physical toll this will take on Hodgey and the uncertainty of what lies ahead, the financial burden will be heavy. Medical bills are costly and add up very quickly. Especially when you’re not able to work and trying to run a household at the same time. If we can come together and offer our support to help ease the pressure it will allow them to put all their focus and energy into what’s most important - getting Hodgey healthy again.
It is a hard time for many in our community as we are affected by ongoing drought and everyone has their own hardships, but if you are able to contribute any amount, big or small, it would be so very much appreciated. Every dollar helps in supporting Hodgey and his young family through this tough time.
