Help HJ Andrews Families Displaced by Fires

Donation protected
Update: We are immensely grateful for the outpouring of support for the staff of the Andrews Forest impacted by the wildfires. In such a short time we have far exceeded our original goal of $5,000 in support. These collective contributions will provide our staff and their families with the support that they need to help them with the challenges ahead. Staff are safe, and are dispersed across Oregon, staying in hotels, RV parks, and with family and friends. Since the burned area is still closed, we have yet to receive confirmation on the status of their homes. We do know that the homes to the east of the fire were spared, but it will be a long time before power and water are restored.

At this time, we are no longer collecting contributions for this specific GoFundMe campaign. We encourage anyone interested in helping to the victims of the wildfire to donate to the American Red Cross or United Way.

The fire has approached the edge of the Andrews Forest itself, we anticipate there will be future rebuilding efforts—if you would like to help support the rebuilding efforts you can make a donation to HJ Andrews Forest by visiting the OSU Foundation’s website and directing your gift to “H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest”.

Thank you hardly seems like an adequate response to the tremendous outpouring of generosity and support, but it is a place to start—THANK YOU!

Original Post
: The massive wildfires along the McKenzie River have displaced 8 staff members and their families as they were forced to evacuate from their homes in the region. It will be weeks, if not months, before they can return to their homes, as power and water will not be in the area for the foreseeable future. The HJ Andrews Forest Family needs our collective support to help pay for their emergency short-term and medium-term housing expenses.

Mark, Rod, and Sharon, who live on the Andrews Forest site full-time, evacuated their homes on the night of September 8. Matt, who was living on site for summer field work, evacuated with them. John, Doug and Cheri, Kathy and Dale and their family, and Brenda and Garth and their family, who live in the McKenzie River valley, evacuated September 8 and 9. The fire is still spreading, so there is the tragic possibility that any or all of the staff could permanently lose their homes in the coming weeks.

You can help today by contributing to this GoFundMe fundraiser for the displaced families' emergency temporary housing expenses until they can get back to their homes. Every donation, no matter the size, will help provide these families with the security that they desperately need in the days ahead as they navigate the challenges from this tragedy.

Thank you for standing with our HJ Andrews Forest Family and all those impacted by the wildfires. Please share this fundraiser with your friends and family--together we can help those in our community who need it most.
