Help Hercules Walk and Play Again
Donation protected
As it turns out, dogs cannot fly. This is a lesson my 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/ Blue Heeler, Hercules, has recently learned. On November 20th he jumped from roughly 6 feet up and damaged the carpal joint on his right front leg. We took him for x-rays the next day after showing significant swelling and the x-ray looked clean. We were sent home with 2 weeks of pain medication, and everything seemed fine. After about a week he still wasn't putting very much pressure on the leg, and the joint had turned to the outside. We went back in for more x-rays, and our vet sent them out for an ortho consult. We received news today (December 3rd) that Hercules has significant carpal damage and has what is called a carpal hyperextension with a probable ligament tear. We were told that surgery to fuse the carpal joint is the only solution to the problem and that a brace may provide relief but did not look promising. The surgery is a staggering $5000-$6000 and that is money that we just don't have. Hercules is the happiest boy and has not let his limited mobility bring him down. We have two other dogs and two young boys that he loves to play with and right now he is not able to do that. Being the holiday season with winter rapidly approaching (we live in Omaha, Nebraska) this quite possibly may have been the worse timing. I don't like asking for help, but I don't have any other options. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated to help with the cost of surgery for either the repair or a possible amputation of the leg. I would be forever grateful.
