Help Kum Bessibe beat Lymphoma & Prostate Cancers

On 14 August this year we received a message from our childhood friend and school mate, Henry (Kum) Bessibe announcing to us that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma cancer and prostate cancer - two cancers!! Recent biopsies indicate that Henry’s cancers have metastasised to the bones and other parts of the body and are spreading aggressively despite interventions. They are stage 4 and with a Gleason score of 9, UK options for treatments are limited.
Over the last few weeks, Henry has been speaking with experts at a specialist cancer treatment hospital in Turkey, led by Boston University researchers, which has developed a treatment that has been helping many survivors who had lost hope. The treatment centre has all his health records, has done virtual assessments of his medical tests and scans from the UK already, and are confident that they can treat his condition. Unfortunately the treatments are not yet authorised in the UK although his UK-based medical team are informally in support of his decision to seek treatment in Turkey. The full treatment is estimated to cost GBP 86,000!
For those of us who have known Henry for close to 50 years now, he has always been the go-to person for moral, psychological, material and financial support and we know that there are hundreds of people out there who have benefitted from his friendship, kindness, positivity and cheeky sense of humour. The news of his deteriorating health condition has come as a shock to us even though he has continued to come across as the strong, friendly and kind-hearted friend we have always known him to be.
For us his friends, Henry is someone who has dedicated his life to helping the underprivileged and privileged alike without expecting anything back. So to hear him expressing a frailty, for the first time ever, has shocked us. We are reaching out to all friends and well-wishers to join us raise funds to help Henry cover his medical bills. Nothing can ever be too small to help and we trust that apart from donating, you will also put him in your prayers.
