Help Hector get life-saving treatment

Donation protected
Our friend Hector is a scientist investigating tropical diseases in Villahermosa, Tobasco, Mexico. He moved there in 2018 with his wife Morvyn to fulfil his dream of being an investigative scientist in his home country after previously working at the University of Glasgow, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Rio De Janeiro and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

Sadly, on January 27th, Hector became seriously unwell. He developed acute pancreatitis, fluid in his lungs and an Acute Kidney Injury. He had a cardiac arrest, needed chest compressions and required intubation. He was then transferred to intensive care. He is currently ventilated in a medically induced coma and on dialysis. Hector is in multi-organ failure and critically unwell.

Despite arriving at the public hospital, due to lack of bed space, they were unable to treat him and he had to be admitted to a private hospital. Hector's health insurance, through his work, provide only up to one million Mexican pesos coverage (just over £35k) but the gravity of his illness means that this will only last about a week in intensive care. Hector desperately needs help to pay for his continued treatment if he is to have a chance of surviving.

Thank you for your support,  Morvyn,Alex, Jen and Mike xx

Some of Hector's work at the University of Glasgow studying  sandflies and the diseases they spread.

A keen musician and entertainer as well as a scientist.  Hector and Morvyn are always at the centre of any celebration.

Ready for work, this time investigating kissing bugs.

Still proud  of Liverpool- where they met.  This photo was taken in 2019 in Villahermosa, Mexico at a Tottenham v Liverpool game. Morvyn was a tour guide at Liverpool Football Club when they lived there.
