 After his foot became swollen, Héctor was taken to Atrium Health hospital in Charlotte, where doctors discovered an infection that had spread rapidly. To save his life, they first had to amputate his foot and then part of his leg.

 Héctor has lived in the United States for 23 years and has worked in landscaping to support his six children. He now faces a difficult recovery, medical bills that have already reached approximately $15,000, medications, and a new life in which he cannot drive or work as he did before.
