Help Heal Juan

Donation protected
Saturday, June 23, 2018 started out as a normal summer day for Juan Guerra and his wife, Olga Lucia. They were both off of work and started making plans for a fun day off together.  But as the day went on, Olga began to notice some very strange and unusual behavior.  Juan was talking to her about all kinds of philosophical ideas he had for the world and for their life. And he started suggesting unusual things to do with their day, such as bringing their two cats to the beach. She became worried and as the day progressed, her fear brought her to the hospital for a doctor to see Juan.

The results were shocking. Devastating. Life changing for them both.

A brain tumor. A brain tumor so large that it was applying pressure to his cerebellum and causing hearing loss and serious cognitive changes.

After transferring hospitals twice, they ended up at the University of Illinois Chicago Hospital for substantial testing and a major, 13 hour brain surgery to remove the tumor.

After many prayers sent his way, he survived the surgery and is now on a long road to recovery. This road includes inpatient physical and cognitive therapies daily as they wait months to see how his brain will redevelop connections impaired by the tumor and subsequent swelling and trauma from surgery.

Ways You Can Help:

1 - DONATE

Brain surgery and hospital stays for months are not cheap! Olga Lucia has been returning to work as a toddler teacher at a local learning center as often as she can but any donation, large or small, will help ease the financial and emotional burden they have to carry.

2 - SHARE

Please share Juan’s story and this page through social media, email, or just word of mouth with family, friends, coworkers, or anyone else who may feel compelled to help this family weather this unexpected storm.

3 - PRAY

Continued prayers and positive thoughts are needed and welcome, always. Juan is still fighting to recover and Olga is staying strong for him.

There are many family and friends of Juan and Olga Lucia’s located outside of the United States. Please know that this campaign accepts international donations!
