Help Harold Brown

Donation protected
There are 15 days left till Christmas. and I am writing you today to ask your HELP in making this Christmas a special one for a man that I have known for the past 25 years, his name is Harold Brown. Harold worked on the landscape crew at the City Of Charleston Municipal golf course for 40 years. He has been retired from the City for the past four years, but continued to run a small part time landscaping business .

I have never seen Harold without a smile on his face. He has taken care of family property for over thirty years and has rarely gone up on his rates (Sounds like a certain basketball coach I know). I have seen him work in conditions that would have buried most men. There is no task that you could have asked of him that he would turn down ( all with that smile on his face and sweat drenched clothes)

Harold was in an car accident last week . He did not sustain any major injuries, but his 2002 Ford pickup was totaled. His insurance reimbursement was $3,000.

Why I am coming to you for help? As many of you know the past few months of my life have been very traumatic, Dealing with a death in the family, health issues, my last child heading to college, substantial hurricane damage, and other personal issues has not been easy.
On Harold's last visit to my house about ten days ago ( prior to his accident. He came up to me and HUGGED me and told me that I was going to be okay that he was praying for me. It was a hug I needed. We both cried ( yeah, there goes my reputation).

That night I was watching ESPN and they showed a replay of Jim Valvano giving a speech shortly before his death. In his speech he mentions that that tere are three things that we should do everyday 1) We should laugh 2) we should think, 3) you should have your emotions move you to tears, could bbe happiness or joy..If you think about it. If you laugh ,think, and cry, that's a full day. You do that seven days a week, you have something special.

So between Harold's visit ( where he made me laugh, think and cry) and Valvano's speech where he did the same. I felt so much stronger about my approach to life.

So back to Harold, he did not show up for his scheduled appointment ( not like him at all) I finally reached him and he told me about his accident. I started to THINK what could I do to help a man that has worked so hard and brought so much joy to others all his life. I am asking your help in trying to purchase a NEW pickup truck for Harold ( Harold has NEVER owned a NEW vehicle. I have a relationship with Jimmy Guthrie owner of Superior Motors in Orangeburg. He is going to give me a great price on a new truck. In the 25K-30k range
Harold has $ 3,000 insurance money, I will be putting my money where my mouth is. I will be donating $1,000. So if my math is right I am trying to raise $25,000 for the purchase of a new truck and I have 17 days to do it. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Checks can be made out directly to Superior Motors Harold Brown Fund. Attention Jimmy Guthrie.PO box 649 Orangeburg SC29116 You can also use a credit card for donation. You can call [phone redacted] or reach Jimmy Guthrie directly at [phone redacted]

At the end of Jim Valvanos speech he tells everybody that you should never give up. If you had a chance to ask my children to complete this sentence A Meyers never ------, They would complete it with the word QUITS. I will not give up on all the adversity in my life right now and will not quit in my pursuit of making the best Christmas that Harold Brown has ever had.

Please forward this letter to anyone you feel may be able to help. I have always been taught it is better to give than to receive. Please help me make this a very special Christmas for Harold.

As an added incentive to donate, I will be pulling five donors at random and offer a visit from Santa on Christmas eve. My wife had a Santa outfit made for me quite a few years ago and I have visited friends and family for over the past 45 years.on Christmas eve ( yeah there goes the reputation again)

Whether you donate or not, I wish you and your family a Blessed and Happy Holiday.
