Kirk Whalen always put his family first. He was generous and thoughtful with everyone in his life but he loved his family so much. No one could be a more loving or supportive Dad to his daughters Hana and Esme. Hana is in her first year of University, and Esme is looking forward to following her this fall. Kirk was so proud of them both and the many ways he knew they will change this world for the better.

Ever since his youth Kirk struggled quietly with acute depression, managing despite his sometimes debilitating illness to build a life full of love, community and laughter. He was an avid collector of bad Dad jokes. He ran or biked whenever and wherever he could. He was a familiar sight exercising any dog in the neighbourhood whose owners welcomed the invitation. He put his money where his earth-loving heart was in every purchase he made.

On December 28, 2019 his death by suicide shocked and deeply saddened all who love and know him. With his loss his family also lost much of their capacity to help Hana and Esme pursue their University educations. Knowing how important that was to Kirk, we welcome your contribution towards Hana and Esme’s education.
