My name is Dr. Eaton and I am the attending veterinarian for a sweet but desperate dog. Time is ticking for Griffen. This 2 year-old French bulldog was traveling with his family from Jacksonville, Florida to Manassas,Virginia to visit grandma for Thanksgiving. It started to rain and the van carrying mom, dad, Griffen, a two-year-old little girl, a three-year-old little boy, and a 17-year-old son hydroplaned and the back of the van slid off the road into some trees. Dad and the youngest son walked away in the best shape. Mom had a fractured eye socket, broken shoulder blade, and a few broken ribs. The oldest son had a concussion and 2 broken vertebrae. The 3 year old daughter had a broken femur, a concussion, and several skull fractures including the eye socket.
.....And then there was poor Griffen. He was crated in the back of the van that took the hardest impact. Rescue workers cut his crate off from around his body to get him out. He had suffered a spinal chord injury leaving him in excruciating pain and unable to use his hind legs. He has been receiving medical treatment to assist with the pain and inflammation however he is in need of more than I can provide him. It appears that he was born with a malformed vertebrae that has been pushed into a another vertebrae of his mid back causing his injury. This can only be confirmed by means of a visit to the neurosurgeon, an MRI, and surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord, his pain, and assist him in regaining the ability to use his legs. To make the long story short, this was not a happy Thanksgiving.
As the family has been released one by one from the hospital with the exception of their daughter, the family has now learned the extent of his problems. Their car insurance is unable to help because it had lapsed by two weeks prior to the accident. They do not have the financial means to have the MRI, neurology exam, and the surgery done for Griffen. Right now, time is his enemy. He is going to need approximately $7000 ASAP to have the MRI done and surgery or face euthanasia . My heart breaks for him as he is very sweet but yet so scared. The way he looks into my eyes is unexplainable. It just seems so unfair that this has happened to them all. I am trying to help raise the funds to provide him with the care and treatment that he needs. My abilities unfortunately are limited in this case at this time . I have done all that I can do for him as the veterinarian. I am left with only this as a last ditch effort . If you are an animal lover and have any compassion for him or the misfortune of the family, a donation to help Griffien would greatly be appreciated.
