On May 15, 2022, our team member, Grant, was home with their family and a friend who'd come to them for safety and support. As they communed, an unknown gunman fired shots into the house, specifically at an area flagged as queer. Grant was shot and taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. He is alive, "safe," but has costs associated with this crime of hate that goes well beyond his flesh.
Grant is a Black non-binary queer person who has made a career caring for his community as a therapist. To be a good therapist, one has to work to heal their own wounds. Additionally, Grant is self-employed. Any impact on their ability to do their job ethically and confidently impacts their ability to take care of themself. Being self-employed also means not having access to paid time off, employer-provided health insurance, etc.
We are asking for the support of the community to help Grant rest. To take as much time as they truly need to be able to step back into their work grounded and consistently care for their clients.
Funds raised here will go directly to Grant to attend to the following:
- healthcare costs not covered by insurance
- supplemental income due to unexpected time off, which will allow them to pay for their basic needs
- therapy
- temporary housing while the repairs are completed to their home
- whatever else they need for self-care and healing
