Help Grandpa fight covid with the help he needs

Donation protected
Hello everyone, I am Jazmin Garcia the granddaughter to Juan Dones who is fighting a battle with COVID and pneumonia.

My mom- a hairstylist who works tirelessly to keep the bills paid and food on the table also has been one of the caretakers to my grandparents in their 70s and 80s, stopping in to make sure they have their groceries and that they are getting through the pandemic accordingly. My mom's worst fear happened in mid-December. She was told my grandparents tested positive for COVID after they were all so so careful.

While recovery from COVID seemed promising at first, a week later my grandfather woke up and couldn't breathe. My 81-year-old grandmother (who doesn't drive) rushed him to the hospital and was left in a daze and frantic. She called my mom who drove an hour to her side (they live an hour from my mom) and they consoled each other about not coming back with my grandfather.

He was fighting pneumonia and a new diabetes diagnosis. Not only did he enter the hospital with COVID, he now had two more serious things attacking his body.

By the grace of God, my grandfather was released a week later to continue treatment at home as they needed to keep the hospital beds open. What we wouldn't think of, however, was that my grandmother could not take care of my grandpa alone.

He can't stand or walk for long before not being able to breathe. He is a 200-pound man and my grandmother can't hold him. He needs help with his oxygen, medications, baths, and meals. More than anything he needs time to recover.

My mom is not affluent and lives her life paycheck to paycheck as an in-home hairstylist while she also puts my 14-year-old sister through sports and home school. My grandparents can not afford in home care and live off of their social security after working their entire lives. My grandfather worked for Apria Health Care, then a coffee company up until he collapsed and had a pacemaker put in last year. This is not something she could ever type here and I am hoping I can surprise her with help rather than having her read this post and feeling embarrassed.

The truth is my mom is exhausted. She can only stay with them for a few days before having to rush home and try to fit in many haircuts then run back to grandpa's side. I would love to raise some money for any left over medical expenses and to help my mother take off of work and care for my grandfather for a few months because I am also not in the position to supplement my mom's bills.

I know we have all had such a hard year, just know that no help is too little. My grandpa will appreciate the space to hopefully have a full recovery and I will make sure to post updates on this page.

I attached two photos from today where my grandpa mustered all of his energy to be present for his grandchildren.

God bless my grandfather, may he be given grace in his journey to being the strong man he was weeks ago :(
