Help Grandma's Kitchen Tackle Costly Repairs

Donation protected
Hi friends of Grandma's Kitchen !

As you know, Grandma's Kitchen is sadly coming to an end. Our final day in business will be December 15th.

Things have been challenging for us since we opened our cafe in Montour Falls at the tail end of COVID and have been extremely challenging for us ever since the flood that destroyed our Montour Falls location in February.

We were excited to have the opportunity to reopen at our new location, but the space turned out to have many of its own challenges.

The repairs to the space at this location fall upon the short-term tenants, such as ourselves, but the limited income we have experienced has made this a very scary position to be in.

Just today, with only 4 business days left at the cafe, we received a bill for $337.18 to pay for the replacement of carbon monoxide detectors that had expired before we began at the space and are hardwired into the space and therefore cannot be boxed up and taken with us or sold like our personal equipment. The bill includes $198.20 for the equipment, $114 for the labor, and $24.98 in sales tax.

Additionally, in September, we received a bill for $251.10 for an instance when plumbers needed to remove years' worth of feminine products from the sewer line in the bathroom in our space. This bill includes $232.50 for the plumbers' work and $18.60 in tax. We have never had the funds available to pay this bill.

We are ending our three years of work at Grandma's Kitchen with $54,596.85 of debt specifically related to opening the business. We plan to sell our house to pay off these remaining obligations. The $588.28 of this campaign feels unjust though as the bills are directly related to the condition the space was left in before we signed our short-term lease.

We know it is the holidays and money is very tight for everyone, but if we happen to have 200 friends who could each give $3, this portion could be taken care of, making the space nicer for the next small business that might decide to give it a try and bring our community their talent and energy in the form of a new cafe or restaurant!

Thank you so much for reading and for supporting our dream the past three years! It has been incredible getting to bring so many fun events to the area that have all left cruelty off the menu!

Happy Holidays! We hope to see you for our final week in business!
