Help Grandma Mabbott

Donation protected

My Grandma Mabbott ("MeeMaw") has always been a caring and loving woman. She instilled a strong passionate sense of family into me. My grandparents have 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grand babies. In 1998, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctors cut and removed it. Then for good measure gave her radiation treatments. Years later she developed MDS. She now suffers from an aggressive form of leukemia that resulted from the radiation treatments.

Doing What Needs To Be Done

My grandfather ("Pappap") , a former serviceman, married grandma 54 years ago. Being a devoted and faithful husband he remains by her bedside to the point of exhaustion. He sold their home, truck, and many personal possessions to pay for medical expenses. Insurance only pays a portion of the costs. The rest come out of pocket.  My grandparents have downsized to a retirement community in Fort Worth. Despite this, along with the aid provided by family and friends, it isn't enough. Added to this is the fact grandma has to go to Houston for treatment. They can no longer afford to pay for a hotel room so they've been using a RV. She also requires lots of attention. Due to the inconsistent Texas weather they requires more help. It eats at me each day because I am unable to do more for them. The doctors have not found an effective treatment yet, but she still has a 15-25% chance of the leukemia going into remission. There are additional options available, but the insurance will not pay for them. To be able to even see if she qualifies for these options will require more money than all of us, family and friends, can muster. Someone suggested we try gofundme. I agreed to do what needed to be done.

A Call For Help

A friend told me about his grandparents who went through a similar situation: Grandma dying of cancer, grandpa by the bedside to the point of exhaustion. Then his grandfather's kidney's collapsed and he remained on dialysis until his death. He missed their 54th wedding anniversary because he has to be on the dialysis machine. His wife died 3 weeks later. I don't want this to happen to my grandparents. Please help us to give them the help they need.  I would like her to be around when the time for me to have  my kids as well. They've always been quick to help others. I ask that you donate, spread the word, and send them the encouragement they need at this time. They need money to pay for medical expenses, gas, hotel room, food, clothing, caregiver expenses, etc.  If all fails and it turns into a terminal case then the money will be used to maintain the quality of life for my grandparents. But as long as there's life there is hope. Don't let that hope die 5 minutes before a miracle. All updates will be made on my Facebook page.
Asking to herd all the help any and all can bring. This outfit is running dry.
