Hello,

My name is Errin Garcia and I teach at Summitt Elementary in Austin, Texas. My team and I have created this GoFundMe for our good friend, Grace Winter. Grace was a University of Texas Elementary Education intern and student teacher in my classroom during the 2022-2023 academic year. During her year with us, Grace's calming presence, positive attitude, hard work, and dedication to students made her an honorary member of our team. After graduation, Grace returned to her home in Pacific Palisades, CA, where she found a teaching position at the very elementary school that she attended as a child.

This past week, Grace's school was evacuated as the Pacific Palisades wildfire closed in. Grace rode a bus with one other adult and 60 frightened students to a secondary site where students could be reunited with their families. Meanwhile, Grace's own family and pets were evacuating her childhood home. Ultimately, both Grace's school and home were consumed by the wildfire, as well as most of her community.

Grace has lost all of her worldly possessions. She and her family are in transition as they search for a place to live. Once school starts again, Grace will also need supplies. We started this GoFundMe to help Grace purchase the items she needs to get back on her feet. We also want to help her purchase any supplies she needs in order to help her students feel safe, secure, and happy after going through a trauma such as this.
