Help Goldie Chan Beat Breast Cancer

I met Goldie a few years ago through a friend and instantly it was like we'd known each other our whole lives. She became such an incredible friend so quickly as we bonded over nerdy things and marketing life. I was surprised to find out this “Goldie Chan” person was a well-known name across many industries, being dubbed the Oprah of LinkedIn for her marketing work, writing a wide variety of articles for Forbes, and much more. It's not every day you can Google your friend and find pages of results! Here I thought she was just a fun, quirky person that loved all things lime green, but she was also so deeply respected and admired by an incredible number of people. Everything Goldie does, she does with a level of kindness and caring you don't often find in the world anymore. Her approach to life is filled with hope, happiness, love, and light. I was heartbroken to find out she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Over the last year Goldie has been navigating various health issues, all made more difficult to handle while so many facilities are focused on COVID related care and treatments. In March 2022 after months of biopsies, MRI scans, genetic testing, and other blood work she was finally given the breast cancer diagnosis. With HER2-positive cancer cells, the doctors are keeping a close eye on everything to make sure it doesn’t spread throughout the body. Goldie is currently going through tests to determine the severity and amount of infection to work with her care team and develop a plan that greatly increases her chances of beating it. In the coming weeks Goldie will be undergoing surgery to insert an IV port to begin several rounds of IV based chemotherapy. She is going to receive treatment with 4 different drugs - 2 that will target the HER2 protein to make the cancer cells more receptive to chemo, and 2 for chemo to destroy the cancer cells. This will happen every few weeks until the cancerous cells are reduced to a safe enough amount where they can perform surgery to remove the remainder. Depending on how well her body responds to chemo, Goldie will have to undergo either a lumpectomy or mastectomy. Throughout the entire process will be continued testing, scans, and more to make sure the cancer isn’t spreading and the treatment is working.

I’ve started this fundraiser because anyone who knows Goldie knows she is reluctant to accept help and very rarely asks for it, even when she needs it. She’s the type of person that will do anything she can to help others with no hesitation. It’s time for all of us to return her kindness and give her a chance to heal. Goldie will be taking at least 6 months off from speaking engagements and not taking on any new clients for marketing or brand consulting. This gives her the opportunity to focus on her care but will create financial strain she has to manage.

There’s still much we don’t know about what her medical bills will look like, but already her insurance is saying they’ll only cover so much of it. The funds raised here will go towards her extensive testing, treatments, and surgery as well as meals and cost of living expenses. Anything you are able to give helps, no amount is too small. If you are unable to help monetarily I will be happy to coordinate meal dropoffs, transportation for doctor visits, wellness checks, and more. Let's all come together to get Goldie the support she needs and be the source of light in her life as she has been for so many of us. Thank you!
