Help Golden Pup Ollie

Donation protected

4 month old golden male puppy Ollie was diagnosed with an Arteriovenous Fistula and several Extrahepato Liver Shunts.

AVF is an abnormal communication between an artery and a vein in the liver. It is causing high blood pressure which is causing a secondary condition of extrahepato liver shunts. Every day that goes by  the pressure is causing more liver shunts.

Whether congenital or acquired this is the first documented Golden Retriever case world wide according to the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC).

After a grim prognosis last week I received a somewhat promising alternative surgery that OVC feels will provide the pup a quality life but he still will be on meds for the liver shunts.

Since the AVF is in the left liver lobe they can remove the lobe. This will solve the issue and will stop the development of liver shunts. They felt that even though there are several liver shunts, they are very small. The pup would be on medication and a low protein diet for life.

I am going to proceed with surgery and hope this pup has a full life.

Surgery is scheduled for Friday February 16.  PLEASE have us in your prayers.

I desperately want Ollie to be healthy. I have a vested interest in the survival of this pup and it will break my heart if something happens to him. I brought this puppy into the world and nurtured him for the first 8 weeks of his life and I care passionately about his wellbeing.
