Help Gloria get her PhD and change the world!

Hi! I'm The Rev. Dr. Sue Boardman and I'm fundraising to help Gloria get her PhD!

Last summer a friend from Columbia Theological Seminary called to ask if I would serve as mentor to an International Student from India who was interested in the intersection between Theology & Art. I was thrilled to say yes!

Since then, Gloria has really found her voice and her medium. She is finishing her Masters in Theological Studies and is graduating with straight A's this semester, despite the extreme challenges of being an International Student during the pandemic.

Accepted to a PhD program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary for the fall term, Gloria
needs our help raising the rest of the required funds for her deposit and some housing money. Her
family is not able to help as they are living in the part of India hardest hit by the Covid surge.

I will be handling the funds raised in this GoFundMe effort and passing them on to Garrett.

Of her passion for her work, Gloria says: "I am particularly interested in redeeming and bringing to life women characters in the Bible who have often been negatively portrayed, devalued or silenced by Christian tradition. The kind of art I do is a fusion of Intentional Creativity, which I learned with Sue Boardman, and realistic art with acrylics and oil on canvas."

Here are some words from one of Gloria's professors at CTS:

I am a Womanist ethicist who teaches and mentors students who want to impact the world because they have passion for justice. Gloria Venuh is one of those students. She is a creative. She is a social ethicist. She paints and writes as a Naga feminist activist to expose sexual-gender oppression. I was one of her professors, and I am excited to support her pursuit of doctoral studies. Dr. Marcia Y. Riggs, J. Erskine Love Professor of Christian Ethics, Columbia Seminary

If you squint hard at the photo of her stunning painting, "Mother Earth," you'll see a red thread running through it. I'm delighted to be on Gloria's red thread with scholars like Dr. Riggs and help her both learn and teach next year. The world needs her voice, particularly now! And she needs our support. Thank you for whatever help you're able to give! sue
