Help Glo Continue Treatment

Can you imagine being incredibly smart with a gift for putting words together but not being able to express yourself properly? Or being talented and hard-working but struggling to walk and talk? That’s the world Terrance “Glo” Gaines has been trapped in for months now.

Terrance Gaines a.k.a. Glo Gaines is a highly intelligent and gifted individual that has been overcoming opposition his whole life. Someone who is hard-working, a loving stepfather and a person who puts a smile on the face of everyone he meets. A man who graduated at the top of his class in high school then went on to college and obtain a degree in Audio Engineering despite the obstacles placed in his path. He went from crafting beats at the age of 14 to winning 1st Place prize in a beat battle in 2020, topping 30 of the best producers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Recently, Terrance’s life was drastically changed in an instant, and he is now facing a different type of battle; one that is sure to be his toughest one yet.

Earlier this year, Terrance reconnected with his father for the first time in 28 years. As you could imagine, there was a great deal of excitement and anxious energy as he hadn’t seen his father since he was 4 years old. This past May, we flew to Philadelphia where Terrance reunited with his father. The two spent the first few days hanging out and catching up; they stayed up late nights, laughing and getting to know one another. They visited family members Terrance hadn’t seen since his childhood and his father took him around the neighborhood Terrance once called home. The excitement was cut short as things took a turn for the worst. While attempting to show off his lyrical ability he suffered some sort of traumatic episode that caused his speech to slur, and he began to lose his balance. Thinking it was probably just nerves and excitement getting the best of him, we continued with our vacation and went to New York. His speech began to deteriorate, and his motor skills got worse. While bike riding in New York, he lost his balance and fell off this bike. Thinking he may have had a stroke, we called an ambulance. They advised us to have him checked out once we made it back home. By the time we made it back to Dallas, Terrance was walking like an 80-year-old, speaking like a 4-year-old and had trouble performing simple tasks like holding a cup in his hands. We began looking for answers by taking him to see every doctor or specialists imaginable. After all the blood work, Kat Scans, MRIs, and after seeing more than 15 different doctors, they’ve all said they same thing: they have never seen a condition like this before. During a visit to a Neurologist, we were advised to begin focusing our attention on treatment as opposed to searching for a diagnosis as this could possibly be a physical response to some sort of mental trauma. From there, we shifted our efforts to therapy. Terrance now sees a Physical Therapist to learn how to walk again, Speech Therapist to learn how to speak again and Occupation Therapist to learn how to use his hands, write and drive a car. The Neurologist also wants him to see a Psychiatrist and Phycologist to help unpack the trauma from his childhood and get to the bottom of what caused this to happen.

This all happened so suddenly, and we were not prepared to take on such a financial burden. Due to his condition, he has been forced to take a leave of absence from work on FMLA with no income. Since he didn’t have insurance, we have been forced to get our own. Between the co-pays for all 9 doctor visits a week and being down to one income, it is way too much for me to handle without help. With time and treatment, we believe he can bounce back; but without it we fear he may never fully recover from his condition. So, we are asking for your help. Every little bit makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. He was recently diagnoses with FND "Functional Neurological Disorder" and he is now having memory loss. He is working hard and we are doing the best we can for him but we still need your help.
