Hello, my name is Brittany and my husband and I are trying to raise money for our son Elijah. Elijah is a four-year-old boy with level 3 autism. He loves lining up his toys, watching Elmo and Ms. Rachel, and painting.
He is nonverbal, though he does pretty well with pointing and gesturing to let us know what he needs/wants. While he is bright, sometimes it's too bright for his own good. He started climbing out of his crib pretty quickly, but with how quiet he is and how prone he is to trying to get outside or into things he shouldn't, we really need a safety bed for him.
This is the type of bed we have been trying to obtain for him for well over a year now. We have tried all the proper channels to get this through insurance. We were even given a 99% certainty of approval and bed in 90 days at the evaluation we had for it. However, that 1% got us, I guess. Insurance told us they wouldn't cover the safety bed because Elijah hasn't already injured himself from trying to elope at night. The other reasoning was for a lack of "severe intellectual disability," which also baffled me because, in my opinion, his autism is just that.
He is currently still sleeping in a crib with a mesh sleeping tent in it and secured. That isn't viable though for how he's growing. He's over 4 now, and he's such a tall boy. He needs a regular twin-size bed, and one that is safe for him and therefore gives us as parents peace of mind to also rest at night.
So that's why we are here. We are asking kindly for people to please consider donating to this cause. We just so badly want to give our amazing boy a safe and secure place to sleep.
