Help give a gift to Llani- Old Market Hall model

Donation protected
Give a little gift to our beautiful town this Christmas and bring home a cased model of the Old Market Hall, lovingly created over 100 years ago.

On 8th December this wonderful creation will be going for auction and, after a babble of community chat, folk asked that we collectively do what we can to bring it home.

Dating to early 17th century, the Old Market Hall is the oldest timber framed market hall in Wales and was once home to weekly markets on its open cobbled floor. The pride and symbol of Llanidloes, it is the most distinctive building in the town, filled with memories and significance for us all.

Give a little, give a lot
It all goes into the bubbling pot

Grabbing a gem before it flies
Off to a home that may have no ties

What is it
"A cased model/diorama of the Market Hall in Llanidloes, circa 1900
• A painted model of the Market Hall in Llanidloes, circa 1900, showing the first floor door, used to load and unload flannel and wool and the ground floor door leading to the staircase to the first floor.
• Set in a glazed case, 59cm wide x 27cm deep x 49cm high
• Condition report: Ok. Case with minor scratches and dents."

Notes
• This model shows the first floor door (now absent), that was used to load and unload flannel and wool. In the early Victorian era when the flannel making industry was thriving, bales of flannel would be stored on the first floor of the market hall, before its transportation to Welshpool for sale.
• At the time this model was made the building had just started to be used as the working men's institute and library. This is supported by the models of working men outside the hall and sitting on the bench inside the arcading on the ground floor.
• Note the differences between the hall as seen in this model and actual building as it is now. Clearly the two doors are now absent, but the decorative ridge tiles are now not present either.

Other bits
• Where will it live? – this is being discussed
• Is someone going to the auction? – Yes, most likely two eager beaver bidders with a quick hand
• What if it goes for more? – Hopefully we’ll have enough but if not then we’ll sadly need to let it go
• What it goes for less? – we’ll come back to the community and figure out where surplus funds can be directed/what else to buy.
