Help Gino (26) to fight against his MS

Hello there,

 

We would like to tell you a litte about our best friend Gino. Our friend Gino is 26 and is the most fun, positive, carrying and loving person you will meet. (even wenn he thinks it's not true). He will always be there for you and have a big smile on his face even on his worst days. Most of the time he will not go with us to discover Lisbon because he thinks he is a burden to us, as you can see on the pictures he sometimes comes with us. (even when we have to push him around, how he's calling it). We also asked Gino to tell the story from his side:

 

"Hi, my name is Gino. A couple of friends asked me to write a piece about myself for this crowdfunding. I don't like to be negative and win souls at all, so I try to avoid that as much as possible. As a child I had a good childhood. But due to some problems in the family, i had to grow up at a young age and I eventually left home at the age of 16. I can't deny that this happened without a fight, but during this period I have learned to stand on my own. 5 years later I took the step to go to Portugal to build a new life, but unfortunately that didn't go as planned.

 

After living in Portugal for a few months, I noticed more and more that my legs started to hurt. This ultimately resulted in me ending up in the hospital without any feeling in my legs. It was here that I was first told I had MS, a nerve disease that had lodged itself into my spinal cord. This would make it more and more difficult for me to control my muscles. The fantastic help I've received from doctors here has pretty much contained this disease. Until the moment when my meds that I was given every month suddenly didn't seem to work anymore. My body has made antibodies to fight this drug. They switched me to several other drugs, but without results. This has ensured that the disease can now run its course and I am gradually losing more physical functions. Vibrations and spasms are now a daily occurrence. This is because my brain is also well affected. My legs barely work anymore and my hands, eyesight and even from time to time my thinking abilities also seem to be affected. I requested several second opinions, but my body hardly responds to the treatments.

 

In my first paragraph I said that I don't want to make a pathetic story out of it, but when I read this back, it's not as positive as I planned. That's why I want to close with a positive ending. Fortunately, I can still do a lot because of my friends. When I want to go away for a day, neither effort nor time is spared to realise that I am there and can participate. I therefore hope that I can spend a long time with these wonderful people and hopefully that a solution will eventually be found for this horrible disease."

 

You can imagine that for us it's hard to think about the day that he will lose his battle against MS. Because of that we decided to find a way to help him. What we found exceeded our expectations: In Moscow, Russia there is a stem cell treatment, in short this means that the treatment involves first removing stem cells from his body, then they will freeze the stem cells. After that he will get a chemotherapy treatment, which will shut down his entire immune system. When his is done, the frozen stem cells will be placed back and this immune system will be reseted because the frozen stem cells are undamaged. This treatment is a one-time procedure and it takes place over a period of 30-40 days. the chances that Gino is getting rid of his MS are considerably high.

 

Unfortunately this treatment, travel and a place to stay will cost around € 50.000 As we cannot afford this on our own we decided to start this crowdfunding for Gino. We really hope that is going to be successful and he will soon be able to get his treatment.
