Len is a 75 year old pensioner from the western suburbs of Melbourne. Len was on a bus tour in Canada with his wife Christine. He came down with gastro, and was feeling unwell. He had a cardiac arrest and ended up in hospital in Victoria BC. He was in an induced coma for several days in the ICU. Tests showed that he also had pneumonia and influenza type A. The doctors were amazed that he survived. He is still in Canada, and requires a heart bypass before he can return home.
Len believed that he was fully covered by his travel insurance, but his claim has been denied. He is responsible for all of his medical expenses in Canada and all of the costs for returning home. On top of this, Christine has to pay for accommodation so that she can remain with him and help with his recovery.
