<div>Hello! We are Dawn Kane, Kerry Kay, and Karen Tay, and we are fundraising for medical costs on behalf of Ignacio Santiago Ondartz, who suffered a stroke on Saturday, March 9, 2024. He is currently in Temple University Hospital's Neuro Intensive Care Unit, and he needs us all to help him get back on his feet.

<div>Ignacio, a long-time professional Argentine Tango dancer and DJ from Buenos Aires, came to Philadelphia with Meredith Klein, founder of the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School last year. With his warm smile and his bear hugs, he quickly won over our hearts—those hugs—definitely an advantage when it comes to tango!

<div>At the studio, Ignacio has proven himself to be a kind and patient tango teacher. He is famous for demonstrating some very complex choreography, then turning to the class and flashing that smile, "See it's easy!" But then during the lesson, he slows and shows you how to break it down. It's very funny, if you're stuck in the steps and the English escapes him; he literally leans down and moves your feet to where they need to go. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, if you have an opportunity to dance with Ignacio, you know it's going to be fabulous.

<div>At this moment, Ignacio is lying in a hospital bed hooked up to countless wires and tubes. He is making small movements with his arms and legs, and he passed his breathing test today, so we hope he will be extubated and breathing on his own soon. These are all good signs, but he will need care during his recovery.

<div>Rebecca Ichord, a well-known neurologist, and one of the members of our community who dropped everything to go lend support, reports that the quality of care he’s receiving is excellent. "We expect Ignacio to show us that his strength and determination are undeterred and will carry the day in his journey to recovery," she said.

<div>We know that Ignacio and Meredith will be back on the dance floor dazzling us again very soon.

<div>But right now, he's a traveler in Philadelphia and has not been here long enough to put all of the safety nets in place. It's only been a few days since the stroke, and Meredith is spending every minute that the hospital will permit at his side. She plays him music by Troilo, a favorite, and speaks to him in Spanish. Last night he woke up and blinked his eyes at her to signal, "Yes, more Troilo, please."

Con su cálida sonrisa y sus abrazos de oso, rápidamente se ganó nuestros corazones; esos abrazos, ¡definitivamente una ventaja cuando se trata de tango!

<div>En el estudio, Ignacio ha demostrado ser un profesor de tango amable y paciente. Es famoso por demostrar algunas coreografías muy complejas y luego dirigirse a la clase y mostrar esa sonrisa: "¡Mira, es fácil!" Es muy divertido, si te confundes con los pasos y si Ignacio no sabe cómo explicarlo en inglés: literalmente se inclina y mueve tus pies hacia donde deben ir. <div>En este momento Ignacio se encuentra tendido en una cama de hospital conectado a innumerables cables y tubos. Está haciendo pequeños movimientos con brazos y piernas, y hoy pasó su prueba de respiración, por lo que esperamos que pronto le quite los tubos y respire por sí solo. Todas estas son buenas señales, pero necesitará cuidados durante su recuperación.

<div>Becky Ichord, una reconocida neuróloga y una de los miembros de nuestra comunidad que dejó todo para ir a brindar apoyo, informa que la calidad de la atención que recibe es excelente.
