Help Gertrude stay in Her Home

Donation protected
Hi Everyone, Meet our cousin Gertrude.  She’ just celebrated a birthday and is 104 years young!

GERTRUDE IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF OUR IMMEDIATE HELP!!!   Wihout our help right now, she will have to move and leave behind everything that is familar to her.

She has been in an Assisted Living Facility  for the past 8 years.   Unfortunately, she has outlived her assets.  The facility where she lives does not accept Medicaid so she needs to move very soon to a nursing care facility.

If you were to meet her in person, it would only take a moment to see you smile. Right away,  her youthful spirit would lift you and you would know that you were in the presence of someone made of something very special.

Wait…what—104 years old? No way...  You don’t get to live to be 100 years old traveling through this life with tons of baggage and Gertrude is a testament to that.  After meeting her, you come away with an awareness of how often we let the little stuff we let get in our way.

Gertrude is a very busy person.  She is hard at work carrying her message.  Without direct words, her message is very clear… “Don’t sweat the small stuff”, “Don’t take yourself so seriously”, “Be kind to one another”, “Help each other”.

When she suspects that you are caught up in some frustration, your're unhappy or angry, she won’t hesitate to tell you, “TURN-THE-PAGE”, which is her most favorite expression!

Gertrude is full of life and is very active.  She gets around well with her walker and enjoys her mobility.  Life is good.  She is not ill and has few medical needs so the limitations in a nursing home setting will take away her independence and freedom.

Gertrude lived at home with her parents and sister, her entire life.   She took care of her own mother until she passed away at 103 years old at home.  Her sister also remained at home until her passing in 2002.

In 2009 at age 95, Gertrude was hospitalized and never returned home again.  She went directly to an Assisted Living Facility under the supervision of a Court-Appointed Guardian.   Gertrude was unaware that her life would forever be different.  She was now in a strange land— in a strange new life.

The Guardian assured her that she would get her belongings but it never happened.  Her home was sold at auction and everything she owned discarded. A lifetime erased—as if it never existed.  Gertrude did not have an article of clothing, a photograph,  not one-single memento of herer 95 years.  She did not even have her eyeglasses to see.   The news of this tragedy was one of the saddest days of my life.

It’s hard to imagine overcoming such adversity at any age but at 95 years young that is exactly what she did.   Gertrude started over.  She moved forward and, “Turned the Page”.  Over the past 8 years she’s made many friends.  She is happy.  She has embraced her new life and she is at home.

I will never forget what our 101 year old Aunt said before she passed; “The most difficult part about living to 101 years old is that everyone and everything I’ve known in my life is gone”.    For Gertrude, that must mean so much more.

PLEASE HELP US SHOW GERTRUDE THAT SHE IS NOT ALONE.  There is not another person more deserving of our kindness.  She is a true inspiration.

Please help her stay in the only other place she has known as home... In her New Life with her new family.    I truly believe that if she moves into a nursing care facility and she were to lose her home and family again ,  it will be devastating.  Right now, she has enough money to stay through the end of the month.

Funds raised  will be used for Gertrude’s room, board,  and basic living expenses for one year.  Any remaining funds will be donated to help others who find themselves in the same situation.

As Gertrudes legal guardian(s), my sister-in-law Debbie donations will be dispursed to us and deposited into Gertrudes bank account to pay her monthly room and board and medical expenses.

I appreciate that these are difficult times and money you earn is almost never enough to go around.   Any small kindness--even a single dollar is greatly appreciated.  Collectively, a single dollar can accomplish remarkable things.

If a donation is not possible at this time, we understand and thank you for taking a moment to read Gertrude's story.  We ask that you please share her story  with friends, family by posting on social media and twitter to help spread her message around the world!  PLEASE PASS IT ON.

An Irish Birthday Toast:
"May you live to be 100 years, with one extra year to repent".
