Help Georgia Access Vision Therapy and Care

Donation protected
Georgia Webber is a neuroqueer crip Comics Artist, Teacher, and Creative Health Explorer. She deeply values unlearning coloniality, the magic of self-discovery, and loves spending time in community as long as it's not at night! A few of her favoutite things are lying close to her beloved dog, Bug, and being outside trail walking (also with Bug.)

Why your help matters:

Georgia is currently living with chronic pain and has recently been diagnosed as autistic with ADHD. Her current diagnosis of Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) means the earliest she can return to work will be April of 2025.

BVD is a cluster of symptoms that occur when your brain and eyes cannot work together to see the world as a single, seamless picture. Our brains use binocular vision to create or contribute to several other processes and abilities. Having BVD means that these processes are disrupted and the brain and eyes must try to compensate in order to process the world around them. For Georgia, this compensation causes eye pain, eye strain, severe light sensitivity, and daily migraines for the past few months.

Georgia has been unemployed since April 2024, and unable to work as either a teacher or artist since this past summer due to these debilitating symptoms. Her unemployment insurance ran out in October and she's been living off a line of credit and credit cards ever since.

Her medical expenses are high and include the cost of therapy once a week, osteopathy two times a week (for a total of $1300/month) plus the cost of the vision therapy she needs to help with rehabilitation and healing BVD. This alone is a huge expense and could be as much as $4000. This vision therapy is essential for Georgia at the most basic level because it will reduce the frequency and intensity of her painful migraines. As anyone who has experienced migraines knows, there isn't much you can do when you're in that much pain. And, of course, Georgia hopes to be able to return to teaching her online classes Making Comics and Drawing Health when her health permits.

Ways to support Georgia:

1. You can support her work as a teacher and artist by purchasing a Drawing the Inside Out Comics Course. Discover the transformative power of comics, unleash your creativity, and tell your story all while helping to support Georgia’s wellness and healing journey. Have questions - find a few answers here.

2. You can donate what you can directly to this fundraising effort here on GoFundMe.

3. We know that some folks do not have the capacity to contribute financially to this effort at this time. Sharing this fundraiser or the Drawing the Inside Out Comic Courses also helps contribute to this act of community care!

Georgia is an amazing, kind, generous and supportive person. She cares about the world and about her community, and we are really hoping we can call on our community to support her in accessing the care she needs. With your generosity, we are hoping to help lift Georgia up as she has often lifted up others in the past. Community care matters so much and we believe that no one should be without the care that they need in order to heal and be well. Thank you for joining us in supporting our dear friend.
