<div>Over the past year, his health has been in decline, and I (his son, Johnstone Metzger) have had to spend an increasing amount of time providing direct care for him and handling the day to day life responsibilities that he is no longer able to do. Over the summer, things got more difficult for my dad and after coming down with COVID, he was unable to safely return home, as he now requires more support than I am able to provide. He has moved into a facility that provides 24 hour nursing care and close monitoring.

<div>Now I need to ensure that this transition goes smoothly and that he gets the best ongoing care possible. Even here in Canada, there are plenty of expenses that pop up when going through such a big life process. So I am asking for help in getting the word out and supporting him through this tough time. I've set a $10,000 goal because it represents roughly six months of care and the associated costs of getting him set up safely and securely.

<div>He has always been a pretty humble guy, but I know how much the comics community means to him. I’ve been going through his belongings and revisiting such a long love of comics. Earlier this year, Fantagraphics released a collection of his comics work. A lot of work went into that book, not only by the staff at Fantagraphics, but also by Patrick Rosenkranz in particular. It would mean a lot for him to hear from his peers and readers during a really difficult time in his life.
