In February 2017 Gemma found a lump on her belly that looked like a skin tag. She contacted the doctors who removed the lump and said if anything came back from the biopsy that she would be contacted. In February 2018 Gemma was at work and noticed the lump had returned in the same place quickly and more painful so she contacted the doctors again. Gemma was sent to Doncaster dermtology where she was given an in depth biopsy.
In May 2018 Gemma received the devastating news that she had stage 3C Spitzoid Melanoma, a rare skin cancer. Gemma underwent surgery on the 28th of June 2018 where she had a large part of her abdomen removed and a new belly button made by the plastics surgens. Gemma was then followed up every 12 weeks by Weston Park cancer hospital and Doncaster dermatology. This included MRI scans of the brain and CT on the body to make sure that the cancer did not return to local lymph nodes.
In 2019 Gemma had her routine scan and heartbreakingly is showed Gemma had developed cancer in the right groin lymphatic system. She underwent more surgery on the 31st July 2019 at Sheffeild royal Hallamshire hospital. The surgery left Gemma with two drains in and left her struggling to walk. Gemma had to rebuild her leg muscle to get back on her feet again but she was determined and she bounced back up and carried on. Gemma then started a year course of immunotherapy, every 3 weeks and would still be followed up with her routine scans, all together she would have 17 infusions to finish her year worth of immunotherapy. This treatment was undertaken in the covid pandemic and Gemma was unable to see her fiancé Paige, due to her working at Dri as a nurse. A horrible time only made worse by being unable to see family or friends.
Unfortunately Gemma got to treatment number 14 and scans showed that the cancer had advanced and spread to her left groin and pelvic lymph nodes and on the 14th of October 2020 she underwent surgery that lasted all day to remove the lymph nodes and a tumour that showed up in her belly. Gemma was informed after her surgery it showed that the cancer had broken the capsule and could be still running wild in her body, so she underwent an MRI which showed that it has spread to her liver and is also in her groin again.
Gemmas cancer has now advanced to stage 4 and can not be cured, this is where we come in, she is hopefull to try and get treatment to prolong her life. Gemma has found a private hospital that specialises is lots of treatment and she has chosen this path to help her.
For anyone who knows Gemma you will know she is the most loyal, loving and caring person. Please let's return this to her with any donations you can. Let's help our fiesty gem get the treatment she needs. She is so young and deserves this chance to prolong her life. She is not ready to give up yet. She is still ready to fight, as always. We love you Gemma. Our brave girl.

Thank you all. X
