Help Geary make his home safe

Donation protected
As most of our family and friends know Geary was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year.  Shortly after his diagnosis his team of doctors felt it was best to amputate his leg along with half of his pelvis and hip to get rid of the cancer.  He has had many stays at KU med over the past 6 months.  After struggling with pain and other issues he went back to KU med to be diagnosed yet again in July with cancer in his pelvis, spine, and left femur.  As you could imagine this was a blow to him and us as a family. Even with all the negative news and pain and struggles Geary has remained positive and hopeful, being his ornery self along the way!

The first part of July Mimi and Geary were returning home from a doctors visit.  Geary fell outside on the front porch trying to simply walk inside with his walker. After help from Mimi's gracious brothers we were able to load him in the car and get him looked at.  It was determined that he had fractured his femur in the fall.

Geary's brother John built him a very nice ramp for the front so Geary is able to get inside safely and with ease.  Thanks to his siblings, his boys, and his nephew for getting it all paid for and set up for him!

We are now looking to raise money so we can make other accommodations to help Geary get around and live comfortably in his own home! Some things that are needing done are handrails on stairs and in both bathrooms, a sidewalk from the driveway to the patio (on the side of the house so he can get to the walkout basement), a new threshold for the door to allow his wheelchair to get over it easier, widen bathroom doors so his wheelchair will fit, a stair lift would be ideal but will cost at least $5000. That is just to name a few. On top of all of this we just found out that Medicare is not covering the $7500 for his wheelchair that is specially made for his type of amputation.  The added cost of his prescriptions, trips to and from KU med, meals while on the road are making it close to impossible to pay for it all.

Those of you that know Geary personally know that he is not one to ask for help but is always the first one to lend a helping hand.  I would love to be able to raise this money through family and friends to allow him to live as comfortably and easily as possible in his home! Thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any donation to this cause!
