Help Garth: Urgent Hip Surgery

Garth is our 9-year-old Carolina Dog, rescued from a kill shelter in Texas along with his brother Brooks. He quickly became a beloved companion and a true savior during my cancer recovery, always by my side with his gentle spirit. Now, Garth needs saving. When I first rescued him, I was told he had severe hip dysplasia and that surgery would eventually be necessary. That time has come.

Garth’s pain has been increasing over the past few months. After a thorough evaluation at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego—including x-rays, bloodwork, and a full neurological exam—we learned that while Garth is healthy in every other way, his hips are gone. We are scheduling his left hip surgery in February, with the right to follow a few months later. Garth is more than just a pet; he’s a mascot, a friend, and a gentle soul who has touched many lives in our high desert community. He was instrumental to my recovery and is truly a family member in need.

The funds raised will go directly toward Garth’s surgeries, medications, and recovery. The process is complex, involving multiple scans, a CT scan, bloodwork, a cardiogram, and two days in the hospital for each surgery. Recovery will require home modifications since Garth won’t be able to use stairs, and he’ll need rehabilitation three times a day for three months. Insurance doesn’t cover these pre-existing conditions, making the costs overwhelming. We appreciate every dollar we can raise for Garth. Thank you so much for pitching in—it truly takes a village.
