Help Gaby Get A Lung Transplant and See Her Baby!

Do you believe in miracles?
I do.

This is a picture taken of my sister in July 2021.

And this is my sister less than 3 months later.

Her name is Gabriela Acuna ,or Gaby to the lucky few that know her and she is the result of the ugly ugly aftermath of Covid 19.
I forgot to mention… she was pregnant too.

Like so many pregnant women she held off on getting the vaccine until she got the A-okay from her OB. The week she had her appointment to ask for OB’s blessing, she got Covid. Like so many she went to the ER asking for help to breathe but she was turned away 3 times before they had no choice but to take her. She was officially admitted into the hospital on August 30th 2021.

Gaby’s situation was tricky because of the sweet little angel growing inside of her. They held off on the ventilator and other necessary methods of treatment because they didn’t want to hurt the baby. She began to deteriorate fast and without her family by her side due to hospital covid regulations.

Gaby fought and fought for 2 weeks as her family watched helplessly through FaceTime. Everyone wanted the baby to reach at least 30 weeks before they would take him out but at 26 weeks pregnant she was dying, and her heart was now at risk. Her last words to my mother, “mom, I have nothing for the baby.” I shouted, “Gaby I’ll get that nursery ready! I’ll take care of it!” A smile. In a matter of moments, they put her under anesthesia for an emergency C-section and Baby Ryden was born on Sept. 13th at 1 pound, 10 ounces.

My sweet sister, you’re a mommy. My sweet sister I kept my promise, your nursery awaits.

But unlike new moms that have just given birth, Baby Ryden awaits for his mommy in the nicu with the hope that he can meet the true angel that is his mother. Immediately we notice he is a fighter just like his mom.

Today is October 8th, officially 10 days before her 30th birthday, she has been intubated, she has gotten a tracheostomy, her lungs have collapsed multiple times, she has 3 chest tubes in her lungs, a cyst on the lungs, and she went through cardiac arrest and by the miracle of GOD, my sweet sister is still with us. Told you she was a fighter.

She came back to life. She was not ready to leave her son. She fights. Okay Gabs, if this is your war then we are all your soldiers. We fight along with you. Gaby’s only hope for as normal of a life as she can get is a lung transplant.

And then… Hope. Gaby is a perfect candidate. She’s young and passed all the necessary tests for her to get admitted into USC. We were told by Centennial Hills Hospital that her insurance had approved her transport to USC to perform a lung transplant. There are no words to describe that moment.

The evening she was going to be airlifted from her hospital in Las Vegas to the hospital in California, we got a phone call. Medicaid denied her last minute. The helicopter arrived at the Hospital awaiting her and they let it fly away.

It wasn’t until the following day that we learned that Medicaid in the State of Nevada does not approve lung transplants.

There are no words to describe that moment either.

So here we are… fighting along side Gaby and baby Ryden.

2 days ago, the hospital allows for patient visits again and I packed my bags and got on a plane. I got to hold her hand, kissed it and made another promise.

My sweet sister as long as you fight, I fight!

If you are watching this video we PLEAD for help. Are there any doctors willing to fight with us? Any doctors willing to do pro bono? WE PLEAD to Medicaid in the state of Nevada to wave your magic wand and not let insurance be the grim reaper to this new mommy. WE PLEAD to raise money in efforts to cover Gaby's medical expenses. And if some how medicaid helps us or doctors perform this pro bono we promise to donate every penny back to other organ recipients in need.

I cannot, will not let my sister die when her baby is waiting for her, when she came back from the dead and continues to fight for her life. I know she’s on borrowed time. She cannot survive in her current state.

Who will fight by our side. I’m calling out everyone who let her helicopter fly away! Shame on you for robbing hope from us.

But we have faith in God’s plan. I know Gaby’s purpose is so much bigger than we all realize.

Who will fight with us?!
