Help fund Robin's next classical piano record

Donation protected
My name is Robin Hatch and I'm a classical composer from Toronto, Canada, as well as a touring musician, currently playing keyboards in the band Fucked Up.

I'm looking for funding to help produce my next album, a piano LP to be recorded in September 2022. EMEAPP, an electronic museum in Harleysville, PA, has graciously offered me a residency to spend a couple of weeks recording on Keith Emerson's Model D Steinway piano.

The Canadian granting system is somewhat of a crapshoot, and because I did not receive a grant for this record I'm reluctantly reaching out to source crowd-funding.

Here is where the money will go:

-Covering the cost of driving to/from Toronto, accommodations, and food in Harleysville PA for ten days. $1000 CAD/$762 USD

-Paying for artwork and layout as well as press photos: $1000 CAD/$762 USD

-Pressing 200 vinyls and 200 CDs. $2700 CAD/$2060 USD

-Hiring PR for three months: $3150 CAD/$2400 USD

More about the album:

I wrote this album in May 2022 at a cabin in Ojai, California. The music itself is a spectrum drawing from minimalism like Philip Glass, Satie, and Paart, over to heavier traditional influences like Stravinsky and Rachmaninov. It delves into Messaienic modes, transcription of bird sounds that I ran through autotune and repitched, and then more contemporary artists such as Nick Drake and Brad Mehldau. Conceptually, the purpose of the cabin was inspired perversely by manifestos written off the grid during psychotic episodes. I am fascinated by the depths the brain will travel to in isolation.

I am five years sober after experiencing a psychotic episode myself that resulted in a PTSD diagnosis. I started releasing original music via a therapist's recommendation as a way to calm myself down, and make sense of what was happening in my mind. As painfully corny as it sounds I truly believe in the power of creative expression as a tool for healing, and that there is a non-violent way to make sense of what's happening in your mind when you lose touch with reality. Sort of like if Jack Torrance from the Shining was big into meditation and going to trauma therapy.

For anyone that follows me on social media, I'm pretty open about the glass ceiling as far as being a female composer in Canada. The niche market lends itself poorly to finding a label, let alone a manager, or a booking agent. The last four years, this has been a one-man operation.

My most recent self-titled piano record was awarded Contemporary Album of the Month by the Guardian (****), and was compared to Keith Jarrett and Conlon Nancarrow. I performed live from "Works for Solo Piano," during the CBC's piano week, which you can watch here.

"TONTO," my self-produced synth album from last year recorded on the legendary synthesizer, was featured on Bandcamp Daily, and included special guests like Eric Slick, Leland Whitty, Joseph Shabason, and Nick Thorburn.

I'm not expecting to receive the full amount but anything you can donate helps. Thank you for considering!
