The Fine Art of Misapprehension, Directed by Noa Cohen

Upon her father's long-awaited return from London, Beatrice Hayward’s life is seemingly changed forever by a shock proposal. She must now grapple with losing her home, her sisters, and her chance to carve out the life she wants for herself. The Fine Art of Misapprehension is a witty and romantic journey into the life of a Regency woman while she deals with age-old questions of identity. The film is a lighthearted Austonian look into young adulthood, exploring timeless themes of family independence and love.

Why this? Why now? Why me?

I never had anything else in mind when thinking about what I wanted to do for my senior thesis film. I have seen almost every Regency romance made in the past 50 years, and I, quite frankly, never get sick of them. I understand the conventions and tools used to perfect the visual language commonly used within these films, but I also know where I can reinvent and showcase my unique voice. I am in my final year of film school, and I want to make something I really believe in for my senior thesis. I am doing this now because I know how successful this project could be, and I have more resources than ever to make this happen, as well as an incredibly driven crew. I am uniquely positioned to create something extraordinary with the most talented people I know.!!!

Despite being such a specific niche within filmmaking, the genre has evolved, and I want to be a part of that. I am uniquely suited to make something new and fresh within the space because I admire it so profoundly. It is a no-brainer: I should be making a film like this because I love nothing more than it. Additionally, with the popularity of Bridgerton and shows like My Lady Jane, period romance has never been more popular. The already massive market for period romance just keeps growing, and with social media and short-form content being increasingly popularized, there has never been a more willing audience for this kind of short film.

Why help fund this project?

Part of the reason I love film is how collaborative it is; with this donation, you would not only be helping to get this film made, but you would also be giving 30 film students not only do what they love but also get a jump start into the professional world. This is a story that should be told, and with your help, I know we can make something that you will be proud to say you put your money towards.

Unlike other fundraising platforms, GoFundMe only charges a small fee. This means that a more significant part of your donation will go straight to making this film happen.

Your donations will go towards the following:

Compensation for cast and some key crew members, like makeup and hair

Location costs - rental for the location and insurance.

Production costs— Including equipment rental, insurance, and production design
Food - for our amazing actors and crew

Distribution— Including costs associated with submitting to and attending film festivals

Can’t contribute monetarily? THATS OK!! You can still support the film by getting the word out about it to your friends and family!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read out the film; we are beyond excited to make this happen, and we will not be able to do it without your support!
