Vanguard Cadet Experience Awaits...
As many of you know, I have had a dream to someday march with a drum and bugle corp. When being asked what a drum and bugle corps is, the easiest way to explain is that they are a highly competitive, performing marching band. I have included a video of a past performance to give you an idea.
Within the last 4 months, I have been to two Vanguard Cadet auditions. One was in LA back in November, and the other a call back in San Jose this past January. It was pretty nerve racking as hundreds auditioned from all over the country and only 150 memberships were offered. However, prior to leaving San Jose’s audition, I was pulled aside and told, “Congratulations Alex, you made the Corps.” I have been offered a Vanguard Cadet Membership!
Being a Vanguard Cadet is a great opportunity and will not only allow me to grow as a musician, but also to experience traveling the country, to do what I love for the entire summer, and to make new friends with similar goals.
However, there is a pretty hefty, yet justifiable, membership fee. It will cover :
All costs for food
Instrument loan and repair
practice facilities
bus transportation
drivers
uniforms
professional instructions
Becoming a Vanguard Cadet comes with more expenses than just the membership fees. There will also be numerous flights to and from San Jose for camps leading up to the summer tour. Additionally, the DCI Championship at the end of the tour will require a flight home from Indianapolis.
Due to the amount of money it will take for me to participate, I am asking for support from my family and friends. If you could help contribute to my GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, I would greatly appreciate it.
