Hi!
My name is Nia Cola, I'm 32 years old and I'm an economist living in the northern Virginia area. I'm currently unemployed due to covid related disruptions and searching for a job, I am also working towards getting facial feminization surgery (FFS). I have VA Medicaid which, like many other insurance plans, does not cover the cost of FFS. The cost of FFS out of pocket can range from between $20k to $50k.
I have been receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for roughly six years. In that time my appearance has changed substantially, however because I did not start HRT until I was 26, significant changes to my skull have already occurred which HRT can't reverse. I feel FFS is necessary to undo these changes in order to alleviate my own dysphoria and reduce the possibility of harassment.
I've recently had a consultation for the surgery with Dr. Spiegel in Boston and I'm seeking assistance in covering part of the cost. I've spent years researching these procedures and surgeons and I feel confident that he is the right one for me, so now what I'm asking for is $20,000. I live with my family and they will be supporting me as well. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
