My name is Fred and I'm a German citizen living in Aberdeen, Scotland. I've lived in this country since 2013, finished secondary school here and now work in security.
I'm also involved in my community as a Community Reserve Volunteer with the Red Cross, and before the current situation I co-ran Gaelic singing workshops at the University of Aberdeen. I've made a home for myself here, and don't intend to leave. One day I hope to raise a family here. That's why I want to become a British citizen, to secure my future.
Sadly, I've only got till December of this year to complete my application for British citizenship. If I were to apply afterwards, becoming a British citizen would mean losing my German citizenship.
No one knows what the future holds, so that could mean me and my family could in future be denied opportunities to travel to the country of my birth.
British citizenship is one of the most expensive citizenships in the world. The cost is made up as follows:
- £1,330 for the citizenship fee itself
- £150 to take an IELTS Life Skills B1 test to prove that I speak English
- £80 for the (mandatory!) ceremony fee
- £50 for the Life in the UK Test
Unfortunately, I'm a low earner, and the resulting £1,610 is more than my monthly income. Due to my other financial commitments, despite my best efforts I have not been able to save up this amount and time is running out.
I would be incredibly grateful for your support, however much you're able to contribute!
