Help Fund Byron’s Cancer Recovery

Donation protected
On April 3rd of 2018, Dr. Mary Dillhoff of the James Cancer Center in Columbus Ohio performed a life saving surgery to remove the pancreatic cancer we found earlier in the year.  The complex procedure involved removing 90% of my pancreas, my spleen, and several lymph nodes along with a portion of my stomach.    My recovery so far has been a little more involved than anticipated with infections and other complications, but overall my prognosis is good.
This is the second time I’ve dealt with pancreatic cancer. I have a disease called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia, Type 1.  It is a genetic mutation where I produce tumors along my endocrine system.  There is no known cure.  Many of the tumors that I produce are benign and harmless.  Some become malignant, such as this most recent batch, and can often become fatal.
We left a small portion of my pancreas as “bait” for the next round of tumors which I am guaranteed to produce.  In doing so, we wisely have a higher certainty of spotting growths before they become a problem because we know where to look.  Every 3 months, we run PET Scans in search of malignancies.  We anticipate another couple of years before having to remove the remaining portion of my pancreas.  This is a cancer I am learning to live with, not one which I am dying from.
Through all of this, there is a love story so deep it would require a novel to even scratch the surface.  Courtney has been my sole reason to endure the seemingly never ending surgeries, the frequent hospitalizations, and emotional struggles that this form of cancer brings with it.  The one very solvable problem is the financial stress.  That is where you come in.
If you know us, we enjoy very simple things.  We have the worst house on the block, a car which has seen better days, and very basic needs.  It does not take much for us to make ends meet, but it did take two incomes.  While I recover, things are very tight.  Please consider helping with even the smallest donation so that we can spend the next several months focused on recovering and enjoying our time together instead of stressing about how to afford living.  Any help is greatly appreciated!
