My name is Fadumo Ali. I am an educator in Minnesota and I am raising funds to purchase books for my students. A little backstory:


I've been teaching for five years now and while I've taught a diverse group of junior high, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students in that time, the one constant has been the need for texts and classes that are representative of the scholars that read and engage with them. Over the years, I've leaned on my online community, first to stock my classroom with diverse choice books to encourage reading and later, to help me purchase classroom sets of new books to replace the limitations of the "classics" I'd taught before. I have always been humbled at how much people are willing to give to a stranger online and that kindness has fueled my desire and ability to continue creating content that my students not only see themselves in, but feel inspired by. I graduated from piloting new texts to creating two new courses at my school and am once again, asking for your help to buy the texts that we will be using as the foundation of our learning next Fall.


I created both a Global Black Literature and Arts and a Black Studies course and need to purchase books for both. I'd like to buy from local/Black-owned book stores as much as possible, hence the need for a Gofundme instead of using a site like Donors Choose.
