Help Fritz on his Kidney Transplant Journey

Frederick (Fritz) Benjamin LaRoche, age 65, a member of the Kul Wicasa Oyate in Lower Brule, SD has been dealing with severe health issues including kidney damage stemming from his Diabetes.  Thankfully,  he received the news on December 14, 2021, that he has been approved as a candidate for kidney transplant. Fritz is listed on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) waiting list. The Sanford Transplant Team in Sioux Falls, SD is committed to coordinating Fritz’s care while waiting for a kidney transplant but this is just the beginning for what is ahead.

 

When the transplant takes place, Fritz and Cheryll (his care support) are required to live in Sioux Falls for a period of at least six (6) weeks. They will be responsible for their own living expenses such as motel or apartment rent, food, gas, and other incremental costs that may come up. Fritz will be required to go to Sanford at least 4 times a week, if not more, to monitor his progress and ensure proper recovery. When Fritz receives his new kidney, the hope is he will not have to go on dialysis, which we know can/would be hard on his body.

 

We are reaching out to family and friends for thoughts and prayers during this time. Fritz and Cheryll are on Social Security and could use any financial assistance you might offer. They are a proud couple and don’t wish to ask for a handout, however, this once in a lifetime offer for a kidney transplant cannot be passed up. Your contributions would be greatly appreciated and every dollar will help.
