Help F(r)ictions to keep running our programmes

Donation protected

F(r)ictions is a recurring screening programme for feminist experimental short film and video, putting an emphasis on work by LGBTQ+ people of colour. We received two arts council rejections “due to a high number of applicants”, but are confident in our plan and are therefore fundraising for money to pay towards our contributing artists. The funding will go towards curating an 8 week digital screening project and showcasing a selection of films on our website. We will also pay a web-designer to develop our website and make it more accessible as well as functional as a screening platform.

We have done all the planning necessary to launch our next screening, F(r)ictions .6. We have 8 filmmakers on board with beautiful works, ready to be showcased including new works from Edmund Hardy, Zlata Onufrieva and Ri Patel. We would like to pay these participants and have calculated a lower flat fee of £175. 8 x £175 = 1400. We are estimating a cost of £400 to go towards web design. Any other money that is donated will go towards the cost of organising and captioning each video (ca. £400), as one of our key aims is to improve accessibility. In the event that we raise more than expected, we will gladly pay contributing artists a higher fee.

F(r)ictions was founded in 2018 and shortlisted for the MEAD fellowship from University of the Arts London. The programme is run and curated by Anuka Ramischwili-Schäfer. We have hosted three in-person events at DIY Space for London, as well as two digital events adapted during the Covid-19 pandemic in collaboration with Camden Art Centre and The 87 Press. Our events have drawn large audiences and have included works by Adam Farah, Deborah Findlater, Sade Mica and Rehana Zaman, amongst others.

We are meeting a demand for experimental innovative film and video, which have been thoughtfully curated and exhibited with accessibility in mind. We will work with a technician who will provide subtitles for each film as well as advise artists how to do this on their own accord, making our programme more accessible to deaf and hard of hearing audiences. Our programme will be a cultural space for queer audiences, which is paramount in a time where London has seen the closing of ca. 80 queer spaces since 2006, further impacted by the pandemic. We are hosting online, to make our programme accessible for free during the ongoing pandemic and reach people who may not otherwise be able to physically attend. The development of our website will help us to maintain a permanent screening platform online, so that we are able to host future in-person events with a virtual option for those who cannot attend physically.

We are very keen to continue screening experimental work and engaging wider audiences. We are hugely grateful for any donations! Many thanks <3
