Hoi iedereen, mijn naam is Sebastiaan Kemps. Samen met mijn vrouw Liza Garcia zamelen wij geld in om haar broer Fredie Garcia te ondersteunen in zijn strijd tegen long kanker. Fredie woont samen met zijn vrouw en twee dochters in de Filippijnen. 

Na meer dan 20 jaar in Saudi-Arabië te hebben gewerkt, is hij naar de Filippijnen teruggekeerd om eindelijk bij zijn familie te zijn. Echter, hij blijkt ernstig ziek te zijn. In juli 2022 hebben ze gevorderde niet kleincellige longkanker bij hem vastgesteld. Helaas zijn er ook op verschillende plekken in zijn lichaam uitzaaiingen geconstateerd. Nu moet hij chemotherapie aangaan, gepaard met bestraling (radiotherapie). Daarna zal hij immunotherapie krijgen. De kosten van deze behandelingen liggen erg hoog: chemotherapie kost in de filippijnen zo'n 15.000PHP, dus ongeveer 265 euro per sessie. Bestraling kost 50000PHP, ongeveer 884 euro per 10 dagen. Immunotherapie kost 100.000PHP, dus ongeveer 1770 euro per 4 weken. 

De leefomstandigheden in de Filippijnen zijn moeilijk. De kosten liggen daar vele malen hoger, terwijl men zeer weinig verdient. Een gemiddelde Filippijn in loondienst verdient slechts 15.000PHP, dus 265 euro per maand. 

Dit is precies de reden waarom onze broer Fredie in 2000 naar Saudi-Arabië vertrok. Daar werkte hij als monteur in een ziekenhuis waar hij soms wel twee diensten op 1 dag draaide. Hij werkte letterlijk dag en nacht om zijn gezin in de Fillipijnen te kunnen onderhouden. Hij verdiende er ongeveer 1000 euro per maand. Samen met collega's uit andere (Zuid-Oost Aziatische) landen woonde hij in een klein huisje, dat enkel met multiplex werd opgedeeld in meerdere kamertjes (lees: hokjes).

Door zijn contract kon hij maar beperkt naar huis. Hij moest zelfs zijn paspoort inleveren. Met geluk gaf zijn baas toestemming, kreeg hij zijn paspoort terug en kon hij één keer per twee, of soms drie jaar naar huis. Dan kon hij voor een paar weken weer even bij zijn gezin zijn en kon hij even rusten. Doordat hij beperkt naar huis kon, miste hij niet alleen feestdagen en verjaardagen maar ook belangrijke mijlpalen van zijn dochters, zoals bijvoorbeeld het slagen voor hun eindexamen, afstuderen en nog veel meer. 

Nu hij eindelijk bij zijn gezin kan zijn, kan hij door longkanker niet genieten. Hij heeft erg veel pijn en veel verdriet. Hij voelt zich angstig en kan moeilijk ontspannen. Extreme pijn houdt hem 's nachts wakker. Het is hartverscheurend.

Maar, er is hoop en wij, zijn familie, houden moed. De artsen hebben het zelf gezegd: hij kan genezen. Daar heeft hij wel onze hulp bij nodig. En die van u. Laten we samen Fredie ondersteunen in zijn strijd tegen longkanker. Help ons om de financiële last bij Fredie en zijn gezin weg te nemen. Hij verdient een leven zonder pijn. Een gezond leven samen met zijn gezin en zijn toekomstige kleinkinderen.

Hi everyone, my name is Sebastiaan Kemps. Together with my wife Liza Garcia we are raising money to support her brother Fredie Garcia in his fight against lung cancer. Fredie lives in the Philippines with his wife and two daughters. After working in Saudi Arabia for more than 20 years, he has returned to the Philippines to finally be with his family. However, he turns out to be seriously ill. They diagnosed him with advanced non-small cell lung cancer in July 2022. Unfortunately, metastases have also been found in various places in his body. Now he has to undergo chemotherapy, accompanied by radiation (radiotherapy). After that, he will receive immunotherapy. This is exactly why our brother Fredie left for Saudi Arabia in 2000. There he worked as a mechanic in a hospital where he sometimes worked two shifts in one day. He literally worked day and night to support his family in the Philippines. He earned about 1000 euros per month. Together with colleagues from other (South-East Asian) countries, he lived in a small house, which was only divided into several rooms (read: cubicles) with plywood. Because of his contract, he could only go home limited. He even had to hand in his passport. Fortunately, his boss gave his permission, he got his passport back and he could go home once every two, or sometimes three years. Then he could be with his family again for a few weeks and he could rest for a while. Due to his limited time at home, he not only missed holidays and birthdays, but also important milestones of his daughters, such as passing their final exams, graduation and much more. Now that he can finally be with his family, lung cancer prevents him from enjoying life. He is in a lot of pain and a lot of grief. He feels anxious and finds it difficult to relax. Extreme pain keeps him up at night. It's heartbreaking. But, there is hope and we, his family, keep courage. The doctors have said it themselves: he can heal. He needs our help with that. And yours. Let's support Fredie together in his fight against lung cancer. Help us take the financial burden off Fredie and his family. He deserves a life without pain.
